Hot shocks

My Slash has a Float X2 shock (a DH shock) on it as stock. This is a large volume unit with a big external reservoir (where the oil goes during compression). My shock didn’t get hot, but the piggyback unit was very warm.
On my partner’s bike is a Float X (more of an Enduro shock). It isn’t quite as burly as the X2. The shock itself got very warm and the piggyback unit was also warm, but not so much.

I can’t recall ever having a hot shock before. It was at the bottom of a good descent (600m vertical). And also at the end of a firetrail covered in arm-sapping bumps.
I can’t say I noticed any decrease in damping performance. Either the decrease is pretty subtle or the heat was insufficient to cause a change.
